We who are socially active and Progressive talk about the strides we have made in racial equality. We point to the advances made between black and white as a product of the Civil Rights Movement. We point to the fact now, in the year 2008, the front runner for the Democratic nomination looks like this.
Good for us. We are making progress, and we have made progress. But let us not forget that often overlooked is the plight of another oppressed minority, one who suffered and died and has more of a claim to be truly American than any of us: African-American, Asian-American, Caucasian, or Latino.
Native Americans, or as we used to say, Indians.
