A Long Time Coming

Obama wins Washington, Nebraska, and Louisiana! Furthermore, his victories tonight give him an undeniable lead in delegate count.

I am reminded of this quote from Winston Churchill.

"The Germans have received back again that measure of fire and steel which they have so often meted out to others. Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

—Lord Mayor's Luncheon, Mansion House following the victory at El Alameinin North Africa, London, 10 November 1942.

This is good for Obama. I get the feeling that the party leaders would love to give the nomination to Clinton, but it'll be hard if Obama's showing clear momentum. I guess they could always reinstate the Florida and Michigan votes. In either case, this could end up being a real mess.

I think they will be hard pressed to give the nomination to Clinton if it is clear, (likely to be the case) that the voters want Obama and that he will have the best chance of beating McCain. I do see this as the "end of the beginning." The people are beginning to demand more of their candidates and the political party leaders. They are standing up during these primary elections and making their voice heard, even if it is a little squeaky after a long period of disuse.
