I daresay I think most of you will know who this artist is, not to point anyone out. ;-)
This was John Lennon's first truly successful single as a solo artist, post-Beatles breakup, and was also one of the fastest recorded songs in rock music history. Written, recorded, and then mixed in a single day it saw release a mere ten days later, on 10 February 1970. That date is interestingly thirty-eight years ago tomorrow. The song reached number 3 on the U.S. Pop Charts.
This performance was taken from Top of the Pops, the UK music showcase show in which notable artists displayed their latest single while at the same time conspicuously miming along (lip-synching) with the pre-recorded backing track and not performing the material live.
Two John Lennons in one week, yes, but it seemed apt.
On an unrelated note, I am writing over at The American Street today. Read me over there if you feel so inclined!
