The History behind the Tornado (And Why it Goes to My Core)

1. Comrade Kevin's great-grandmother lived in the area the tornado hit and was a worker at the Fulton Cotton Mill, now a converted loft apartment for urban pioneers. She was worked to death, metaphorically speaking, by the bosses in conditions that even the most heartless now would find cruel and unusual.

2. That same area was the edge of the Confederate lines during the Battle of Atlanta in 1864, immortalized by Gone With the Wind.

3. The area was populated by working class whites in mill villages, of which the houses with trees now through them were set up originally to give people who worked in the textile mills a place to live. The area transitioned to black, then has been since been gentrified and is a trendy place to live.

4. The mill was located on the same spot as the former Atlanta Slave Market.

5. German Jewish immigrants founded the mill.

5. Comrade Kevin lived in that same area for a year.

6. Heavy, huh?
