For the Turnstiles

A few thoughts on the Democratic National Convention.

All the sailors
with their seasick mamas
Hear the sirens on the shore,
Singin' songs
for pimps with tailors
Who charge ten dollars
at the door.

You can really
learn a lot that way
It will change you
in the middle of the day.
Though your confidence
may be shattered,
It doesn't matter.

All the great explorers
Are now in granite laid,
Under white sheets
for the great unveiling
At the big parade.

You can really
learn a lot that way
It will change you
in the middle of the day.
Though your confidence
may be shattered,
It doesn't matter.

All the bushleague batters
Are left to die
on the diamond.
In the stands
the home crowd scatters
For the turnstiles,
For the turnstiles,
For the turnstiles.

  1. I have loved that song since before you were born, and as it happens, tonight is the first time I've been able to hear you sing due to my own technical difficulties.

Getting Well is a long, twisting road. It's especially hard to persevere when you're Not Well.

You hang in there. I'm going to tell you what my psychiatrist tells me because maybe we have the same diagnosis: You're too smart for your own good. You notice too much and feel the discrepancies and idiocracy too strongly. It's actually a very cool way to be, once you get used to the idea that only people who really understand you are in the same boat - and they usually are Not Well themselves which can make friendships difficult. One day I'll tell you about one of my favorite moments in this life: Playing Monopoly in the Loony Bin. Cracks me up to this day.
